Freedom Camp 2009

For a week at Easter 8 young adults and 12 volunteers had a fantastic week at the Wingate centre full of fun and laughter.

The week was action packed and included an activity each evening (being an adult Camp) including a ‘midnight’ treasure hunt and a fabulous interactive story. Visits included JJs sensory centre, the Trafford centre, Tecniquest and the bowling alley amongst others.

We had an ‘Under the Sea’ theme and this was visited a number of times throughout the week with a cinema evening, a trip to Blue Planet Aquarium, creating a sea based sensory collage, swimming, an underwater party and a trip to the theatre. The theatre was one of the many highlights of the week.

We went to see Spongebob: the Musical. We all danced and sang along with all the songs, Gary calling out to the stage every time they asked ‘where’s Gary?’ (Gary also being the name of the missing snail in the story!), Justin in fits of laughter and dancing wildly, Sonia and Marcie loving the music, Cassie shouting for more every time a song finished and Lucie and Aidan giggling away, whilst Chris (not so keen on the noise) had a whale of a time racing with a couple of the lads by the quay! We all had an amazing week and were exhausted by the time we returned home.
