Breakfree 1 Camp 2008

Breakfree 1 Camp again visited the Wingate Centre. It would be difficult to find another site that was quite as accessible, close to home and where the staff were so helpful and supportive. We had an amazing group of children and volunteers, which made it another fantastic week.

Our theme this year was Christmas! Midweek we split into three teams and wrote and starred in pantomimes. These were filmed so that everyone could have their own copy to keep. They were very imaginative and funny and the children really enjoyed it. We had another day trip to Telford. In the morning everyone went ice-skating. The children, all wrapped up in layers, were taken in their wheelchairs at speed around the ice-rink and, without exception, they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which would undoubtedly have been a first for most of them. Most of the volunteers loved the experience too and the wheelchairs give great stability to the novice skaters.

After lunch people were given the chance to either go bowling, shopping or to see the many attractions the park had to offer. The last night Christmas party was wonderful. Everyone visited Santa in his Grotto and we played some party games. Then we had an unexpected visit from the classical singer Catherine Jenkins who was singing in Nantwich that evening. After tea we had a wonderful party with two incredible singers and entertainers and everyone was dancing until late in the night.
